As soon as the Alameda County Office of Education and Alameda County Public Health Department deemed small group in-person supports safe and possible this fall, OUMS found a way to offer them to the students and families we could.
Currently, OUMS offers in-person learning support to 4 groups of students who are in a “Learning Hubs” together. When students arrive in their masks, they complete a Health Screener administered by the leadership team, have their temperature taken, use hand sanitizer, and report to socially-distanced classrooms. During the school day, students log in to their Zoom classes and receive support from teachers in their classrooms. Students are also able to play socially-distanced games outside during breaks! Students who have been participating in this program have seen academic gains.
Designing in-person supports is one of the many benefits to being a small, creative, and nimble school.
