7th and 8th grade scientists enjoyed a beautiful day on the Bay! We observed the sea lions at Pier 39, completed the Bay Aquarium’s scanvenger hunt, and then got on the high seas to observe marine mammals in their natural habitat. Thank you to the Marine Mammal Center for their Ocean Ambassadors program— it’s a partnership our students have enjoyed for years!

Oakland Unity Middle School has been named a 2026 California Distinguished Schools Award recipient — the only school in Oakland to receive the honor this year.
This prestigious award recognizes schools across California that demonstrate exceptional student outcomes and exemplary instructional programs.
For years, many families have believed they need to leave East Oakland to find a great school.

We took our Polar Passports to the Vimto booth, hot cocoa station, BINGO extravaganza, volleyball tournament, ramen bar, jumpy house, nacho station, Photo Booth, Paint & Sip, and of course, our annual snowball fight! ❄️

These are just some of the scholars who surpassed their mid-year “Typical Growth Goals” in iReady. Some of these students even crushed their “Stretch Growth Goals” for the entire year…by December. For reference, only 20-35% of students meet their “Stretch Growth Goals” in a YEAR—much less a few months. WOW!
